Where Iron Fits

Four places iron makes the most sense.

Iron is not the answer to every fence line, and we will say so if wood or chain link suits your goal better. These are the jobs where it earns its cost.

01

Pool enclosures

Iron lets you keep an eye on the water from the patio. Pool barriers have safety rules for height, picket spacing and gate latching that vary by city, so those details get settled before the design is final.

02

Front entries and courtyards

A low iron fence and a matching gate set the tone at the street without walling in the front yard.

03

Estate and acreage perimeters

Long, open fence lines with brick or stone columns give a large property a clear edge and keep the view.

04

Backyards that back to green space

Where there is something worth looking at beyond the property line, iron keeps the view that a solid wood fence would block.

Design And Upkeep

Choices that shape the look and the cost.

Height, picket spacing, the style of the top rail, and how much scrollwork you want all change the look and the price. Tighter spacing keeps small pets in and adds material. Decorative finials and arched gates add labor. Gate hardware and any automation on the gate are a large part of the cost, which is why we quote them separately from the fence.

Caring for an iron fence

A good powder-coat finish holds up well, but no coating is permanent. Chips let moisture reach bare metal, so touch up scratches early instead of waiting for rust to show. Wash off dirt and pollen now and then, and keep sprinklers from soaking the base of the fence every day.

Iron, wood or chain link?

IronBest for curb appeal and open views. Higher cost, low upkeep.
WoodBest for privacy. See our wood fence installation page.
Chain linkBest for budget and function. See chain link fence installation.

Iron often shows up next to gates, so if you want a matching entry, look at our driveway gate installation page too. Ornamental fencing is popular where lots are larger and HOA neighborhoods set a standard, such as Keller, Southlake and Westlake, and we install in all three. Iron Fence Questions

Wrought iron fence questions.

How much does a wrought iron fence cost?
Iron is priced by the linear foot, and height, picket spacing, decorative details, and the number and size of gates all move the number. It generally costs more than wood or chain link. We give you a free on-site estimate after we see the property. More on how we price is on our pricing page.
Does an iron fence need maintenance?
Less than wood, but not none. A powder-coated finish resists weather well. Touch up chips and scratches early so moisture cannot reach bare metal, and rinse the fence off occasionally.
Can you match an iron fence to my existing gate or columns?
Yes, in most cases. Bring photos or point them out during the walk-through and we will design the new sections to line up with what is already there.
Is an iron fence a good pool barrier?
It can be. Iron gives you a see-through barrier, but pool fences have rules on height, spacing and self-latching gates that differ by city. We confirm what applies to your address before the design is final.
